LabVIEW 2 Workshop

Tracnova –the only company which distributes National Instruments in Argentina- made a presentation on LabVIEW 8.5 yesterday at Almagro campus. The workshop was organized by ORT Entrepreneurship Center (“CEO” in Spanish) and the Electronics track, within the framework of the cycle “Talking with Experts”.

There was a presentation on state-of-the-art software, which helps to create flexible, scalable applications on design, control and tests. Such software is used by engineers and scientists to interact with signs from the real world, analyze data to extract meaningful information and share results through screens, reports and the Web.

Many professionals from the local industry participated in the workshop; there were also students and teachers from the Electronics track (Almagro campus), and guests who got enrolled when they leant about this activity through the information posted at ORT Virtual Campus. One of the most important aspects of the workshop was the interaction between our students and the local industry professionals, thus promoting networking and opening new opportunities for the future.

Physics Conference at Almagro Campus

Last Wednesday 9th, the first of the 2008 Physics Conferences was carried out. This activity targeted all the students who were interested in subjects related to Physics, which are not covered by the classic curriculum.

On this occasion, Claudio Sanchez, Industrial Engineer specialized in means of communication, talked about the well-known animated series “The Simpsons” and “Futurama”.

Since many of these series scriptwriters are scientists from important universities, there are countless references to physical, astronomical and mathematical principles. For that reason, this conference really caught the participants’ attention.

Exhibition of the Itinerant, Interactive Museum of Games and Toys at Almagro Campus

From April 14th to 18th, the exhibition organized by ORT Technical School along with “El Galpón” (itinerant, interactive museum of toys and games) will be carried out for the second consecutive year.
There will be 3 different sections at the exhibition: the first section will show pedal and pull-along toys; the second, will be organized in decades or topics; and the third section will have a scale model so that visitors can interact with the toys.

There will also be a section called “The toys our teachers played with”, which will exhibit games, toys, photos, images and short texts that somehow illustrate how they had fun when they were kids.

You can visit and enjoy this museum, which will open from 8.30 am to 8 pm (from Monday to Thursday) and from 8.30 am to 4 pm (on Friday), at Rio de Janeiro Auditorium.

Sony Employees Took an Exam at ORT Belgrano campus

Last Sunday 6th, April, employees from Sony Style Argentina took their 5th exam at the ICT track of ORT Technical School -Belgrano campus. It was on technology and products manufactured by Sony, such as Digital Imaging, Display, Vaio, Audio, Home Theatre, Audio Car, Cell Phones. The instrument of evaluation was elaborated by the ICT track, together with Sony Product, Marketing and Human Resources Managers, and it was administered and corrected by ORT ICT track.

On this occasion, 80 employees from the Capital City were evaluated on-site, at the ICT laboratories, and 20 employees were evaluated off campus, in Córdoba Province. The activity was organized by the ICT-teachers Juan Ignacio D’Amore and Dario Mischener from the ICT track.

Commemoration on the National Day of Memory

Last Monday 31st, March 2008, there was a commemoration ceremony on the National Day of Memory. Tatiana Sfiligoy, the first granddaughter found by Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo and part of H.I.J.O.S. Association (composed of children of the ‘disappeared’), visited Almagro campus. The ceremony was organized by students and teachers of the Musical Production track: there was a play, which triggered Tatiana’s talk and then a debate. To close the activity, a group of students interpreted a song on the issue.
