“HP Innovation in Education” Grant

In August, Hewlett Packard gave ORT Technical Schools an award for winning the “HP Innovation in Education” grant. The winning project incorporated the new educational technologies to improve the teaching and learning of Mathematics, and it was developed by the Teaching & Learning Resources Centre (“CREA”), along with the Mathematics Department and Technological Education Area.

The award consists of an HP Mobile Digital Classroom (estimated in U$S 70,000), which contains resources such as Mini Note PCs, Digital Boards and Tablet PCs.

This new computing equipment will be incorporated into the classrooms and laboratories in September, thus increasing the amount and variety of technological resources with which our students will learn, and contributing to the continuous improvement of the educational quality of our institution.

It is important to stand out that this is the 2nd time that Hewlett Packard grants such an award to our institution. In July 2007, ORT Technical Schools obtained the “Technology for Teaching Higher Education” grant, thanks to a project developed by the CREA and the Technological Education Area. The grant enabled the implementation of an educational research project based on the application of mobile technologies to the classrooms. 30 teachers and more than 1600 students are involved in this project, which will continue till the end of 2009.
